Baptism Registration Form
Dear Parent,
We hope that persons requesting baptism for their infants and children are registered members of our parish who are practicing and participating in the sacramental life of the community. Anyone not belonging to our parish community, requesting to baptize here needs to present a letter of permission from their local pastor.
Baptisms at St. Joseph Church are celebrated outside of Mass on Saturday or Sundays. Godparents must consist of at least one practicing Catholic, must be at least 16 years of age, confirmed and actively living the Catholic faith. Godparents must be present at the baptism or proxies must be arranged. If Godparent/s is not registered with St. Joseph’s Parish they must provide a letter of good standing from their home pastor.
Baptism preparation includes the following:
o Watch the first three (3) episodes of a video series called “Reborn” on Formed.org. The link directing you to the series is: https://watch.formed.org/reborn. Each episode is approximately thirty (30) minutes long. If you can watch the videos with your child’s godparents, that would be wonderful.
o After finishing the first three episodes in the series, contact Mandie Sundsted, facilitator of baptismal preparation for the parish, to schedule a time to meet to discern your readiness to proceed. Please contact her at (605) 641-3437.
o The fourth video in the series, “Mission to Love: 7 Keys to Catholic parenting” is a great follow up to Baptism and Godparents may enjoy the fifth video, “The Gift of Godparents”.
Ms. Sundsted will notify the parish office when you have successfully completed this process. The date for your child’s Baptism will be scheduled upon completion of the required baptismal preparation.
